I Didn’t Have to Use my AK…

I think today is going to be a good day.

I got a lot of crap work removed from my plate at work yesterday, and I finally got some internal projects made official instead of the kind of skunkworks guerilla-style manner in which I normally have to get things done (here or in previous jobs). I have to manage projects, people, budgets… they’re all “internal” projects, but it’s something (and frankly, I like internal projects a lot). So who’s the big winner? Microsoft Project, that’s who.

On the subject of work, I got some very nice thank yous from people WAY high up in the company — the kind of people who normally would not know of my existence. It’s admittedly weird for me to take a thank you call — I’m much more used to the calls that either ask me to drop everything I’m doing and help someone, or the calls where something that should be working isn’t working. A call where someone just likes everything I did and how everything’s great? There must be a hidden agenda… But yeah, it’s nice to get an ‘atta boy.’ It definitely beats being told how despite my extensive vocabulary, I fail to convey meaning.

Shit, I think I even got my junky Flash 5 repair job done (fingers crossed).

Suzy’s going to figure out who can watch Logan for a little bit on Saturday so we can have some adult time and go and see “10,000 BC” because she wants to see big action movie, and I have no argument with that. Supposedly we’re having dinner with Mickie and Graham and Riley again tonight, so we’ll have a playdate of our own.

Everything’s lined up for next weekend’s fun with Ange and Doug coming in. Dee tells me her sister-in-law’s brother is best friends with the band The Tossers who we’re all going to see on Friday night, so that could turn out interesting (or just be a cool fact to know).

Despite the cold in Chicago today, the sun is out in full this morning and there’s a subtle hint of humidity and warmth that suggests maybe springlike weather is on its way (maybe for St. Patty’s Day?).

I just need to get through today and we should be solid.

  1. Congrats on the atta-boy. Never enough but always welcome. Let us know how 10000 BC is, it’s on my list. Rugby for me this weekend. Luckily it’s supposed to warm up a bit tomorrow.

  2. Sorry I flaked on responding, Brian. It’s been a busy week. Project management? Paperwork is hard to get right. I may get what I ask for and find that it’s a lot easier to do everything on the down-low because you don’t have to answer for anything when you’re below the radar.
