Ethan,

Interoperability is a key issue -- I completely agree. In fact, the test-case idea you're describing is something that was banded about at the TWG and is being actively pursued -- the message about how sequencing works differently in each LMS and how it rolls up scores, as an example, is a critical one for interoperability.

But I'm really asking beyond sequencing tools. We need to get a feel for what learning looks like in the next 10 years -- what do learning activities look like? Who participates?

I'd like to see a sequencer testing/writing environment that is part of the standard free tools. The stuff is brutal to figure out and things like rustici are great but the licensing agreement is a problem for my company. It'd be nice to have it off line as well.

Too many of the LMS's out there act differently in sequencing as well. My courses end up being a bunch of patches making it work. Maybe something in eclipse like redbird's tool but free and open. When i was at devlearn this year it amazed me how scared all the developers were of the sequencing rules we need a user friendly gui to help them. Plus the output could be a target for the LMS providers to work from.
